Singapore – April 2011
We have just returned from 8 days in Singapore with Martin and Louise. We stayed in their apartment which is very, very smart and in a modern complex with two 50 metre swimming pools and a large Jacuzzi area. There were beautiful grounds with play areas for children, tennis court, BBQ pits etc etc. The weather was hot and humid as you would expect, but we only had one tropical storm and some showers on a couple of other days. We had visited Singapore before so did not do the typical tourist things but found ourselves doing a lot of walking including a 11+ km walk around the reservoir through jungle areas and beside golf courses and, of course, the water. The variety of fauna was quite amazing and we saw monkeys, terrapins and lizards including a swimming variety within a few minutes. Other walks were mainly along coastal areas which were beautifully clean (as was typical of Singapore generally) but we also climbed Mount Faber.
The four of us enjoyed a harbour cruise that included a stop on Kusu Island. Well worth a visit if you ever go to Singapore, especially if there are not many tourists or locals visiting when you are!!! We certainly enjoyed seeing the tortoise sanctuary and the temples on the island and then the view below on our return journey.
The public transport system is brilliant and very cheap – we used many buses, the underground and also taxis to visit different areas of the town including Chinatown, Little India and the Malay Village.
Many thanks to Martin and Louise for making it such a great holiday.
We are now back in Fairford for a week to sort ourselves out before we head to California.
