Christmas 2012 – Fairford
We had a quiet Christmas but, nevertheless, very enjoyable. On Christmas Eve we visited Jenny and Mark and the children for lunch. Jon and Jess were also there. We had a lovely time and enjoyed a super meal and a pleasant relaxing time before we left to visit Jess’s family home for tea and mince pies. Wary of the fact that we were singing at Midnight Communion we left in plenty of time to head to Fairford. Christmas Day was spent at The Nook. Lucy (the nurse) came home early in the morning after completing a night shift. James was home already as was Jon who had decided to spend Christmas morning and lunch with us before heading back to Jess’s family home for Christmas Dinner! The afternoon was spent quietly with much time spent playing Words with Friends via phones and ipad despite being in the same room.
Christmas evening was spent at the home of our friends Sarah and Mike. All in all it was a very pleasant day.
The only draw back over the Christmas period has been the weather. As we come to the end of the wettest year on record for England we have been anxiously watching the River Coln in the town. It overflowed its banks and flooded the centre of the town in 2007 and we were fearful that it might happen again. As of today (28th December) the town has survived unscathed but the river remains very, very high with more rain forecast. It is amazing when we realise that in April the UK was considered to be in drought conditions with hosepipe bans imposed for a couple of months
